Monsieur Chabert
Nothing to see here, except the advertisement posted in the Ovens and Murray Advertiser (Beechworth, Victoria) on June 23, 1857.

M. Chabert, whoever he was, was certainly not the same Monsieur Chabert, French “Fire King” who had made himself famous with feats of fire-resistance and poison-eating.
The only magicians in the immediate vicinity were Professor Eagle and Bennett Clay, who although he styled himself “Wizard of Wizards”, was probably in South Australia rather than Victoria at the time, and had no reason to appear anonymously. Other users of the “W. of W.” title were Anderson and Jacobs.
The event came and went with no commentary.
